Blue Flypaper implores Democrats to Rally Their Base
Since my readers appear to enjoy a little humor:
Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."
"OH NO!" the president exclaims,"that's terrible!"
His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the president sits, head in hands.
Finally, the president looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"
Okay, now let's get serious. Bush blew it with Meiers but even though I am a loyal Democrat, we Dems have not played this very well either. Bush was taken out by the crazy right wing religious nut side of the party when it should be Democrats that slow and stall the process. That's why we need to rally the Democrats greatest asset...our celebrity base.
When you think of it, the Republicans have only a few celebrities to speak of..Charleston Heston, Ron Silver, and that's about it. The Democrats however have a who's who on the red carpet. We have men and women who can "open a picture" as well as ensemble actors and grass root actors (like Christine Ricci) and other up & comers. Our leading liberal stars and starletts are the ones who should be involved in the selection of the next Supreme Court Justice.
As strong and incredibly brave and brilliant as Teddy Kennedy and Barbara Boxer are, they shouldn't have to fight every Republican nominee single handedly. If Brad Pitt, Angela Jolie, and Sean Penn are out there working against the next Bush nominee, they those nominees won't have a chance. Meanwhile if and when a good nominee is proposed, the support of people like Woody Harrelson or a Baldwin will make it a shoo-in. Come on!
But the Democrats have not been employing this strategy and I'm not sure why. One possibility is that they are saving them in reserve for 2008. But I think that this is dangerous. To me, picking a Supreme Court Justice is just as important as picking a Congressmen.
Let's hope that we see Robert Altman and Rob Reiner helping us pick the next justice. If they do you know that everything will be okay.

Bluebabe, I always knew that you were a kittydipper. But not a true one, only one out of convenience.
Your imploring vapid Hollywood to "do something" is about as effective (both your stance to them, and their "ability" to do anything besides mouth off, that is) as pissing in the ocean.
And what will "President Hillary" do with the Supreme Court that W's gonna leave her with?
Just desserts, if you ask me :)
fatman,
Only an Expedition?
The Excursion is far roomier, burns a LOT more fuel, and - since the macho-lesbian types love big trucks* - she'll feel right at home.
(* That is, every macho-lesbian I've ever met, which has been a few)
I didn't know WH's father had confessed to killing Kennedy - got a linky?
BTW on that subject, if you've ever read Jim Marrs' work, it's an eye-opener. Funny how quickly LBJ ramped up operations in Vietnam before JFK's body was cold...
Now you've lost me. Oh, wait, there I am! Wherever you go, there you are.
Policywise, sending actors out to fight political battles just isn't a good idea. A better strategy would be waiting for the system to change. It only takes about forty years.
In the spirit of political humor, since BlueBabe has a sense of one (now and then, that is), here's two jokes from the other side of the political aisle, for you to read while Bush figures out how many a "brazilion" is...
"John Kerry keeping a low profile this week. He said he wanted to get away and go someplace where no one would expect to see him. So I guess he showed up at his old seat in the Senate. Nobody's going to look for him there." --Jay Leno
"You see the pictures in the paper today of John Kerry windsurfing? He's at his home in Nantucket this week, doing his favorite thing, windsurfing. Even his hobby depends on which way the wind blows." —Jay Leno
Now I feel better :)
This is satire, right?
If the Dems want to get anywhere, they have got to leave the idiot celebrities behind, and start acting like their voters have some common sense.
Oh.........That's a problem as well.
"Idiot" celebrities? Give me a break. A lot of them went to college. They read scripts and some even get producer credits.
You might not like their politics but do not call them idiots.
Does that make Hillary the Beast?
/channeling the book of Revelation
whatn tarnation is this?
Are you actually trying to encourage democrats to promote their elite-hollywood thing? And I thought you wanted them to win...
"Idiot" celebrities? Give me a break. A lot of them went to college. They read scripts and some even get producer credits.

Anyone who identifies with the politics that they do could not be described any other way. There isn't a one of them that would be worth the piss it would take to put them out if they were on fire.
You disappoint me, blue...deleting posts like that. What happened to an open forum for discussion? Getting to close to the "hive" mentality? Can't take someone with a differing viewpoint?
You barking moonbat...
You know that I don't typically delete posts even when they take a different viewpoint than me. However, if someone posts a comment under my name that is something different entirely. That's violating me and essentially raping my name. Hence the delete.
I would love to see the "enlightened" celebrities take a stab at a Bush nominee, let alone a Bush policy, and then if they even accept an invitation to discuss their viewpoints on a talk show, be verbally beaten with logic as they typically have been.
Going to college will only make an uneducated idiot an educated idiot. Academia fosters idiotcy rather than eradicating it.
Actually I love the celebrity politics. Hollywood keeps the likes of John Kerry out of the White House. What i am saying is you might want to reconsider the value of their support.
I'm really disappointed Blue, I gave you a link here and have not had any reciprication!
Stan I think you are making a tactical error with your suggestion. Celebrities shine when on talk shows. They sound great and look good too. If they were freed up to talk politics and not just plugging their new movie you can bet things would change in this country.
Xavier, Sushi is not the only dish best served cold!
BlueBabe got her name raped? Damn.
Wonder if she would have anything to say about her idol Woody portraying Larry Flynt...a fine example of women's rights, that scab of rotting flesh - er, human - is.
fatman, thanks for the linky; I'll check it out tonight.
Meanwhile, LGF has info on a job you might want to avoid...
Woody does a pretty good "le tigre".
Im a bitch,
I'm a liberal,
Not a dog,
just a liberal...
you know that when I disagree,
I look at Ted Kennedy,
yeah Im a bitch,
I'm a liberal,
got my tampons in a kafibberal...
I dont know what that even means,
I do request socialist company!
Hey wanderlust,
I went to your website.
It really sucked!
Wanderlust: I checked out the link you put in and I had forgotten what a den of conservative hate LGF is. Yikes!
Anyway, while you and I may not agree with the death sentence for Iranian stock speculators, it is important that neither of us judge the Islamic culture through biased western eyes. Persian trading was successful for thousands of years and then we forced a western banking/equity market on them that is upsetting their economy--no wonder they are a litte upset.
And while I am against the death penalty (and in fact against punishment in principle), I will not judge other cultures and neither should you.
If you're against punishment, how do you propose we deal with crime? And don't try and tell me that all crime is caused by poverty; plenty of rich people committ crimes. Take Enron, for example.
--==/ My brain hurts. \==--
Dearest wanderbabe,
My site sucks, as it were, because I haven't posted anything there yet.
At some point, when time and mood permit, I will begin posting musings on whatever comes to mind, mainly regarding human nature, for anyone who cares to peruse.
I'll likely be blacklisted by BlueBabe in short order (laughing)...
Oh, and BlueBabe, I don't "judge" other cultures...but what I do, is pray every day to whatever God or deity (deitess?) will hear, is that one day, YOU will be forced to live in one of those "cultures" that you prefer not to judge.
Preferably Iran or Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, the point of the link (regarding capital flight from the Tehran stock market) was to demonstrate that autocratic goverments and capitalism don't mix - hence the 20% capital flight from that market in only four months.
According to Ahmadinejad's "culture", BlueBabe, you should be wearing a hijab and black robe, you should only speak when spoken to, and you must provide housecleaning, daycare, and sexual services to your husband - whom you cannot chose - entirely at his whim.
Oh, and don't forget: their "culture" has a neat and easy way of "dealing" with the "problem" of homosexuality in any form:
Death.
So please, please, go live there. Soon.
You suck wanderlust.
I hate you and everything about you.
My name is Howard Dean.
