Added to the Black List: Mayor Sam!

Newly added to the Blue Flypaper Black List (the nations #1 Liberal Black List):

There are so many reasons that true liberals will want to avoid Mayor Sam's Sister City. Among them:

They chose to name their blog after a man who is best known for his anti-communist, anti-Equal Rights Amendment and anti-busing opinions.

The guy is dead--so it's kind of a creepy name even if it wasn't the name of a famous white male.

If they wanted to pick a great politician to name their blog after they could have chosen Shirley Chisholm, the first black woman elected to Congress.

Mayor Sam is relentless on their unwarranted attacks on Maxine Waters--which is how I first learned of their existence. Everyone (particularly the Mayor Sam web site) has made such a big deal about her being added to a list of the "most corrupt" members of congress. Big whoopeedoo. If you look at the list you can see a number of problems with it. For one, as a victim of lifelong racism and sexism, she does not deserve to be a list with oppressive white males. Second, the "crimes" she is alleged to have committed are really about her taking care of her own family members an allowing them to use her influence to extort city contracts of a million dollars over the past several years. In some cultures this is called love and/or taking care of your young.

Finally, Mayor Sam is part of the Bear Flag League--a veritable "who's who" of crazy right wing bloggers including Independent Sources, BoxerWatch, Patterico and about another 100 or so whackos.

In short, stay away from Mayor Sam and instead spend time with this group.

Government does such great things...schools, housing, welfare, unemployment, food stamps, etc. so why is "big" government good? It seems to me that the bigger government is the more services that they can provide. I like big government.

Conversely, businesses do better when they are small. With whom would you rather do business? The small corner grocer or Walmart? The little corner free trade coffee house or Starbucks? The little corner bookstore or Borders? It seems that the smaller the business the better for all.

Why is this hard to comprehend or controversial?

PS. Don't forget that FDR was behind winning WWII so I'd be careful saying bad things about him. He also got us out of the depression that Hoover and the Republicans caused.

Regarding the comment above:

I thought Socialists and Liberals believe no war is justified. Only Republican Wars?

Back in the days of FDR, Truman, and Kennedy, even though those Presidents had ideas regarding the size of government, etc. that differed from fiscal conservatives, they were on the same page regarding US foreign policy and defense of its interests in the world.

No one that I've read here, or in other "conservative" blogs such as Wizbang, Little Green Footballs, or In From The Cold, has suggested that a Democratic President, or a "liberal", as such, would shy away from defending American foreign policy interests.

What many of us HAVE suggested, however, is that there has been a shift on the Left over the past four decades to where those who believe the UN should solve everything do so at the expense of US foreign policy interests, and even at the expense of abrogating national sovereignty away - and that, to entities in the world that systemically fail to care about human rights in their own countries, groups, or religions.

So, to give an example based on your silly comment, Kennedy (Democrat) stared down the USSR in 1961, even to the brink of a nuclear exchange between the powers. He recognized that there came a time when defending US interests meant that one had to choose between negotiation or display of, and preparation to use, miliatary force.

Ten years or so later, however, Kerry bargained with a puppet regime of the USSR for a "peace" that, beyond its pretty word, abrogated US policy at the time (fighting a worldview that stomped on national human rights to set up puppet regimes that spread a certain political doctrine, which was a declared enemy of the United States). And Kerry did this action (negotiating) while it was treasonous for him to do so. His actions cost the lives of thousands of American servicement who were MIA, most of whom have never been found or accounted for, thirty years after the fact.

I may not agree with the politics of an FDR or JFK (the real one, not the Heinz-funded one), but I do agree that I would trust them to stand up and defend US interests in the world.

I cannot say the same for a Clinton, and definitely not for a Kerry, Dean, or other national Democratic political figures of late.

"Kennedy (Democrat) stared down the USSR in 1961, even to the brink of a nuclear exchange between the powers."

Unfortunately as idealistic as JFK was, he simply did not have the brains or the capabilities of his younger brother Teddy. Teddy was the heart, soul, anbd brains of that family and if he had been President during the Cuban Missle Crisis, it would not have been a crisis. I wouldn't be surprised if Teddy was giving his older brother tips all through that time.

The problem I have with the concept of National "Defense" is that we as a country meddle and push people and when they respond we say we are just protecting our interests.

For example, we choke off North Korea and institute a famine there. When they start counterfeiting U.S. currency to be able to buy food for their young we call them criminals.

I'm all for national defense but it shouldn't be use to attack people. Furthermore, defense should be proactive with us giving aid that is enough give the people of the world (e.g., Africa, Asia, etc.) health care, jobs, unions, etc. If we did this instead of building bombs, I think you'd see us with a much safer country which is the idea of national defense isn't it?

Maxine Waters had to work hard to make that list. It takes a lot to beat Republicans at their own game.

At 10:59 PM, Blogger True Blue said...

There is a big difference. Maxine Waters behavior can be excused. You can't say that about the wealthy, white males on the list.

At 11:02 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh, liberals, when will you learn: we gots an army to kill stuff. The only way to defend a country is to actively ruin your own nation's reputation, and hire as many cronies to do your bidding as possible. Every student of history knows that "diplomacy" is all b.s., just like my dad said before he kicked me out of the house at 16 for not working two jobs and paying his rent. I learned how to take care of myself on my own because I am a self made man down here at AutoKleen. I don't have any health care at this job, but what I earn I keep and spend on bullets. That's the American Way. None of this "cooperation", "family", "help other people" bull.

I don't believe that at all. If we had President Gore like we were supposed to we wouldn't be in Iraq or preparing to invade Iran. We wouldn't be having troubles in North Korea.

Do not let our current militaristic view of the world skew you away from the power of diplomacy. Just look at the UN!

Liberal True Blue,

You have to understand how rapacious these other people are. Koreans are just waiting to attack us. And the Iraqis? Hello, do all those car bombs mean nothing to you? Better there than here.

We have to defend ourselves by ignoring all other rational actions as a nation and simply ATTACK EVERYONE, NOW.

Al Gore didn't have the stomach. Thank GOD that GWB is here to protect the U.S. from all of these American-blood-thristy terrorists.

You are guilty of treason in my eyes. Because treason is not standing up for the Commander in Chief no matter what.

Wanderlust, I have to agree with what you have said. I may not have agreed with the politics of those men, but they are better than ANYTHING the democRATic party has put up lately.

I still am simply flabbergasted, Blue, that you can actually believe the things that you write. The best part of Ted Kennedy ran down Joe's leg just after he rolled off Rose. And what was left was lost in Chappaquidick with Mary Joe.

And as for national defense...would you be comfortable being run by say...North Korea? Do you have any clue what men and women have been fighting and dying for over the past two hundred years? So you can sit here and spout off.

You aught to keep that the back of your wee little mind when you are trying to turn this country over to another power.

You barking moobat.

At 1:34 PM, Blogger Wanderlust said...

BlueBabe, I think I've figured out why you have such a problem dealing with issues like corruption, graft, and your penchant for blindly following Teddy Boy, Kerry, and the UN:

* Do you support yourself, or do your parents pay for your college tuition, board, clothing, etc.?

* If you support yourself, how much of your annual salary is taken away from you to pay local, state, and federal taxes (income taxes, sales taxes, and municipal fees such as automobile registration)?

* Do you have your own bank account?

* What percentage of your income do you give each year to charitable organizations, or to persons in need?

If you are living on your parents' checkbook, you likely won't have the first clue of all the things I've asked, or what the context of those questions is. After all, you have a slit, so therefore you are a victim, and you have a license to make up for your victim status by engaging in all manner of thoughs and deeds others would consider unfair - because since you are a victim, well, the impact of your deeds on others simply can't be your own fault.

However, if you do work and support yourself, consider this: how would you feel if, after barely being able to support yourself on your current salary, government changed the tax laws to raise taxes on your earnings, causing you to become unable to pay each month's expenses?

Would you be happy about it?

Would being taxed more justify behavior on your part to make up the financial difference by other, less legal means, than that of working legally?

What if those tax dollars were given to illegal immigrants, so that they could afford to live in your town, while you don't have enough money to live?

How would you handle your government-imposed poverty?

What if you didn't qualify for federal programs to "help" you get through your hard times financially, because those programs were targeted at people earning less money, before taxes, than you do, regardless of whether they have ever tried to improve themselves so that they could earn higher wages?

If you decided to go into business for yourself, how would you feel if the government decided that you should not make any profits on your business, because profits should go to people who have no means to support themselves?

What if you could no longer afford designer-label clothing because of having no money left over to buy the things you like, after taxes?

Notice even your hero Kerry pays the bare minimum tax that is required of him, and not a dollar more. You can search for this information on Google, and it will be there.

Makes me almost want to start a blog, so you will blacklist me, too...

One thing I do agree with you on, BlueBabe: bring labor unions to North Korea, and fast.

The moment that happens, we won't have anything to worry about anymore - the labor unions will try to outdo Kim Jong Il for corruption, and nothing will get built, especially nuclear weapons infrastructure.

You can give them Teddy Boy while you are at it. Ditto to Kerry, Dean, and Hillary.

Whatever threat NK posed to the US will be neutralized immediately by inaction, and removed when the Islamofascists in the region steamroll them.

Wanderlust: If you read my posts you know that I work full time and then some. Yes I pay taxes and if it meant free health care, better social security, a stronger United Nations. Fortunately I don't have to because if we just tax the super wealthy we can do this and more

I donate a great amount of time and percentage of my income to charity. I've done and supported Breast Cancer walks and proudly wear my pink rubber wristband proudly.

As for illegal aliens, they wouldn't be illegal if we opened up our borders. They'd happily pay taxes if we let them become citizens and give them the full benefits of doing so. They'd pay even more taxes if we got them in unions and let them work for real wages.

Wow.

A real-time blog-comment smackfest, courtesy of our raving "whocares?!"...bring it on, baby :)

I too was fooled for a moment into whocares?! "logic" regarding our dearest BlueBabe.

For a moment. A fleeting, new-york-second kind of moment.

Then, I had a revelation - the complimentary prods of Occam's Razor and KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid).

For one, BlueBabe IS consistent in her abject cluelessness. Just read her posts over the last few months for UNDENIABLE proof. On top of that, anyone who has scrolled through the protest photos at LGF Operative Zombie's SF/Berkley area photo site would understand that there really ARE people who are just as clueless as the BlueBabe (for absolute, undeniable proof, see Zombie's photo essay of the Ward Churchill speech at the
Bay Area Anarchist Bookfair
; just scroll down the page until you get to the 6th photo from the top. Proof UNDENIABLE, I swear it!)

All that being said, BlueBabe really should answer for her hero Kerry's
personal tax avoidance behavior
, as chronicled in none other than that bastion of Masshole Liberalism, the Boston Globe.

A lesson for you, BlueBabe, since you don't seem to attend too many economics classes: a "tax shelter" is any financial instrument or investment, used by very, very rich people (the kind that YOU want to pay for everything under the sun), to AVOID paying personal income taxes. These "tax shelters" are investments in companies which incorporate themselves in tax-free countries such as Lichenstein or the Grand Cayman Islands. Our man Kerry, who espouses the "rich" being the ones to pay for everything, hides his own wealth away from the Taxman.

Just do as I say, and ignore what I do. I'm better than you. MoveOn(TM), nothing to see here...

BlueBabe, wanna bet that every one of your so-called "heroes" who earn more than $200,000/year engage in similar behavior?

I'm sure that whocares?! could take the bait...

At 9:12 AM, Blogger True Blue said...

Wanderlust:

John Kerry is compling with the tax laws that the Republicans have instituted so are all of the celebrities and other wealthy liberals. However, if they are given the chance they want to raise taxes and eliminate the loopholes. That is not contradictory, it is fair and just.

Don't blame them for following the law, blame the people who made the bad laws to begin with and praise the people who want to change them.

If the last two elections hadn't been stolen through fraud, then our wealthy would be paying higher taxes (e.g., their "fair" share) and we would have a much stronger economy. I mean what good does this money do when it is sitting in foreign tax shelters instead of going to the people who need it?

I have nothing against teens but will must protect the sanctity of the Black List.

I do not consider myself a liberal as I'm not sure that I've earned that label. True liberals are people like Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, and especially Barbara Boxer. I'd love to be mentioned in the same sentence as these heros but as said above don't think I've earned it--yet.

I think that taxes on the rich are far too low and that our government is failing the majority of our peoples and that it needs to step up and provide a lot more services--especially to people of color.

I love the fact that celebrities decide to get involved and help people instead of tooling around in yatchs. They are wonderful people and give back to the people who love them.

I think Bush has ruined this country and especially our relations with longterm friends like France. I love the environment and think we should protect it at all costs. I love the UN--we created it!--and that we need to support it if we want it to succeed. I love unions.

If all of this makes me a liberal, so be it--I don't believe in labels--I just call it being a realist.

I understand that a lot of people have trouble with a womyn having political views and thus I get called a "parody" or a "little girl." So be it, if you can't take issue with my issues (and who can?) then by all means attack me since you've got nothing else to say.

Poor people don't make enough money to pay taxes. Raise their salaries up to what wealthy people make and they'd gladly pay their share.

We certainly don't have to "get rid of private property" but we do have to do something about the fact that the vast majority of our citizens have so little of it.

Federal spending does need to go up. But if we weren't in Iraq and didn't screw up the levees in New Orleans then there would be a lot less money wasted. Plus, money given in entitlements (welfare, etc.) isn't really spent since we are giving it to people who really need it and who will be spending it right away.

At 1:08 PM, Blogger Wanderlust said...

Um.

BlueBabe.

I am from the New Orleans area.

Be careful about how, and to whom, you point the finger of blame for the levee problems there.

You might discover that the US Army Corps of Engineers has culpability in this matter, one that took place in 1994.

Read all about this situation here, complete with links to news articles and court filings on the subject.

Now. WHO was President in 1994?

I know you were but a wee babe back then, but I'm sure you can go figure it out.

Let me give you a hint: you know the "hide the salami" game dear fatman wants to play with you? Well, the President of the United States, in 1994, was playing those games with a cigar, and the mouth of his favorite intern, while the US Army Corps of Engineers accepted work on the 17th Street Canal Levee (the new one, you know, the one that got knocked over, and flooded New Orleans, two days AFTER the storm) that the contractor who performed the work reported was substandard, due to inadequate foundation preparation and structure engineering design issues.

I know this quantity of deduction and logical thinking is probably a bit greater than your liberal arts education has prepared you for, so I suggest keeping a good quantity of your favorite alcoholic beverage handy, for when your brain explodes from overtaxing its capabilities.

I think the main point here isn't that the levees broke, but that FEMA's response was so incompetent that it borders on criminal.
