Blue Flypaper: Actor Sean Penn credited with saving almost 10,000 lives!
Actor/Activist Sean Penn has been credited with saving thousands of lives in New Orleans, sources at Blue Flypaper said.Blue Flypaper credits Penn with averting almost 10,000 deaths from Katrina and bases its calculation on the following:
Before Penn's arrival in New Orleans the death toll estimates ranged from 10,000 to 25,000. After 3 days of Penn's boat rescues, the official death toll is now around 300. While there are still many people missing that certainly can't be Penn's fault and those deaths shouldn't count against his number.
Thus it's both accurate and fair to give him credit for the 10,000-300 or 9,700 lives saved.
Way to go Spicoli!

Oh, and a couple thoughts regarding the hurricane, and spicoli's BS:
* It was a good thing he was grandstanding in New Orleans, instead of down in the Parish (St. Bernard Parish, east of New Orleans, for you foreigners). Some people I know down there, including my brother, would have shot his ass the moment he came through with this "I'm from Hollywood and I'm here (with my entourage) to help" crap.
* I note that CNN has sued to be able to show rescue recovery efforts on television, including recovery of dead bodies from the water. Why can't they show the same restraint with Katrina victims as they do with victims of jihadi suicide bombings in the Middle East?

Penn guilted and prodded the government and didn't want to look bad by him saving everyone himself. Because of that they stepped up their actions. He deserves credit for those as well.
